Birding at Trap Pond State Park: Featuring Prothonotary Warblers (4/24/25)

I went on a field trip with the Sussex Bird Club. We started birding by the Nature Center and went in a loop through the parking lot, field, and woods before heading back to the Nature Center. Birds we identified included blue grosbeak, chipping sparrow, American goldfinch, northern cardinal, yellow-rumped warbler, Canada goose, brown-headed cowbird, brown thrasher, prothonotary warbler, palm warbler, yellow-throated warbler, double-crested cormorant, laughing gull, mallard, red-eyed vireo, great-crested flycatcher, and brown-headed nuthatch. Our next stop was the Bethesda Church area of the park. We took the trail all the way to the boardwalk over the swamp. Birds that we identified included prothonotary warbler, great-crested flycatcher, common yellowthroat, red-bellied woodpecker, red-eyed vireo, ovenbird, red-shouldered hawk, black vulture, yellow-throated vireo, and blue-gray gnatcatcher.
