Birding at Trap Pond State Park – Featuring a Bald Eagle (8/19/23)

We walked along our usual route through the park starting by the pond, walking across the bridge, and back through the parking lots including the butterfly garden. There were several bald eagles seen today. Soaring over the pond were several immature bald eagles and one adult. We did not see any Canada geese. We saw a ruby-throated hummingbird in the butterfly garden. Near the bridge by the waterfall, we saw a spotted sandpiper and a solitary sandpiper walking in the shallow water above the fall. Other birds we saw included eastern bluebird, eastern kingbird, double-crested cormorant, black vulture, chimney swift, barn swallow, osprey, tree swallow, red-shouldered hawk, mallard, northern flicker, and American goldfinch.
