After leaving the Indian River Inlet, we drove up Route 1 a bit and went to Silver Lake in Rehoboth Beach. We parked in the one small parking lot before the small bridge over the lake. We birded the edge of the lake from there, then walked across the bridge and onto Lake Drive. The attraction from Lake Drive was a closer look at a minimum of 200 canvasbacks in the water nearby. Many were sleeping or were otherwise camera-shy as I got many photos of just their backs. Many canvasbacks are found here every winter. Also in the lake were double-crested cormorants, great blue herons, Canada geese, ring-billed and great black-backed gulls, and mallards. We have to go back there soon on a sunny day.
