We went on a birding trip to Redden State Forest with the Sussex Bird Club. We covered the Headquarters Tract with them before leaving the group early. We saw two blue-gray gnatcatcher nests with gnatcatchers going in and out of them. One of the gnatcatchers was taking silk off a caterpillar nest and was bringing it back to the nest. Warblers identified were yellow-throated warbler, pine warbler, and ovenbird. Other birds identified included chipping sparrow, brown-headed cowbird, eastern phoebe, laughing gull, pileated woodpecker, downy woodpecker, northern flicker, Canada goose, Carolina wren, black vulture, Carolina chickadee, American robin, and mourning dove.
