At the Visitor’s Center, we only identified gray catbird, Carolina wren, northern cardinal, and Canada goose. The Dike Trail was much more active with 31 species counted there. Some of the birds we identified along this trail included green heron, great blue heron, laughing gull, belted kingfisher, royal tern, Caspian tern, Forster’s tern, American avocet (27), snowy egret, great egret, eastern towhee, peregrine falcon, great-crested flycatcher, white-eyed vireo, osprey, black skimmer, clapper rail, and tree swallow. We took the Photographer’s Blind Trail next and some of the birds we saw there were osprey, American avocet, laughing gull, snowy egret, tree swallow, and northern mockingbird.
