I went on a Birdwalk with the Sussex Bird Club. There were ten of us in the group and we covered three areas. From the Visitor’s Center, birds we identified included tree swallow, house wren, red-winged blackbird, purple martin, and northern mockingbird. Next, we walked along the Dike Trail which was fairly active. Birds that we saw along this trail included great blue heron, orchard oriole, osprey, eastern kingbird, royal tern, wood duck (2 females), indigo bunting, black skimmer, marsh wren, downy woodpecker, northern flicker, blue grosbeak, greater yellowlegs, bald eagle, laughing gull, barn swallow, blue-gray gnatcatcher, and laughing gull. Our final trail that we took was the Boardwalk Trail. From this trail, some of the birds we identified were common yellowthroat, great-crested flycatcher, chipping sparrow, indigo bunting, great blue heron, and tree swallow.
