I went birding with three other members of the Sussex Bird Club and we led a birdwalk for the public. Some of the birds we identified by the Visitor’s Center included American robin, American crow, American black duck (overhead), northern harrier, and white-throated sparrow. Birding was very good along the Dike Trail. Birds we identified along this trail included bald eagle, osprey, great blue heron, northern mockingbird, eastern towhee, American avocet (two small flocks), northern harrier, Forster’s tern, yellow-rumped warbler, marsh wren, Carolina wren, swamp sparrow, dunlin, ring-billed gull, belted kingfisher, merlin, downy woodpecker, and red-breasted merganser (one flying).
