Birding at Prime Hook NWR: Featuring an American Goldfinch (8/11/20)

I birded today in my usual three areas—Visitor’s Center, Dike Trail, and Boardwalk Trail. Purple martins were active again at the martin apartments outside the Visitor’s Center. Among the 22 species seen along the Dike Trail were gray catbird, American goldfinch, semipalmated plover, semipalmated sandpiper, turkey and black vultures, red-winged blackbird, short-billed dowitcher, house wren, and osprey. I identified American goldfinch, Forster’s tern, indigo bunting, killdeer, white-eyed vireo, great blue heron, and tufted titmouse along the Boardwalk Trail. I picked up 32 species during the morning walk.
