Our first stop was at the Prime Hook NWR Visitor’s Center. We only identified Carolina wren, tufted titmouse, northern mockingbird, mourning dove, American robin, Carolina chickadee, and fish crow from there. We spent most of our time along the Dike Trail where we identified 30 species. Some of the birds we saw along Dike Trail were merlin, red-winged blackbird, great egret, snowy egret, Caspian tern, Forster’s tern, Savannah sparrow, osprey, flocks of white ibises heading south, American avocet, belted kingfisher, sharp-shinned hawk, one adult bald eagle, herring gull, laughing gull, short-billed dowitcher, great blue heron, merlin, and red-winged blackbird.
