We covered four areas of the refuge this morning. From the Visitor’s Center, some of the birds we saw were flocks of snowy egrets, belted kingfisher, American goldfinch, osprey, and northern mockingbird. We picked up 25 species along the Dike Trail including several immature little blue herons, glossy ibis, red-winged blackbird, Forster’s tern, blue grosbeak, royal tern, American avocet, osprey, great-crested flycatcher, eastern kingbird, and short-billed dowitcher. Some of the birds we identified along the Boardwalk Trail were tree swallow, several immature little blue herons, snowy egret, northern cardinal, and laughing gull. Our final trail took us from Blue Goose Trail to Foord’s Landing Road to the Entrance Road, and back to the Visitor’s Center. There were not many birds along this trail and some that we identified were northern cardinal, Carolina chickadee, field sparrow, Carolina wren, and American crow.
