We did not spend much time birding around the Visitor’s Center but we did see American robin, house finch, turkey vulture, and red-winged blackbird. Dike Trail provided us with 16 species including three bald eagles—one adult in the distant tree across the water and beyond the observation deck and two immatures elsewhere. Other birds seen from this trail included northern mockingbird, ring-billed gull, yellow-rumped warbler, dunlin, greater yellowlegs, Canada goose, great blue heron, semipalmated plover, black-bellied plover, and white-throated sparrow. We identified 14 species along the Boardwalk Trail including northern harrier, great blue heron, Carolina chickadee, Carolina wren, gray catbird, European starling, one adult bald eagle, black vulture, and northern flicker.
