We started from the Visitor’s Center area but didn’t see very much there. Mourning dove, osprey, and blue jay were a few of the birds we saw. We identified 26 species along the Dike Trail. Some of these birds included Caspian tern, Forster’s tern, willet, snowy egret, great egret, great blue heron, glossy ibis, white ibis (imm.), brown thrasher, Carolina wren, belted kingfisher, white-eyed vireo, herring gull, greater yellowlegs, American avocet, and double-crested cormorant. The Boardwalk Trail was generally quiet. Birds we identified there included blue grosbeak (imm.), snowy egret, fish crow, northern cardinal, osprey, and European starling.
