Our first stop was at Fleetwood Pond and the boat launch area. Many birds were singing in this area including yellow-throated warbler, ovenbird, and red-bellied woodpecker. We saw a northern waterthrush walking and teetering along the water’s edge by the boat launch area. Next, we walked the loop around the Pine Grove Trail. Some of the birds we identified along this trail included yellow-bellied sapsucker, wood duck (two in trees in the woods), eastern towhee, brown thrasher, pine warbler, blue-gray gnatcatcher, northern flicker, white-throated sparrow, laughing gull, and Canada goose. We saw the yellow-throated warbler along the trail high in the trees along the Fleetwood Pond side of the road. We didn’t see much in the Visitor’s Center area during our short stop there but the purple martins were back in their apartments. Our last walk was along Black Farm Trail. Birds we identified along the trail included turkey vulture, eastern towhee, pileated woodpecker, white-eyed vireo, European starling, song sparrow, downy woodpecker, blue-gray gnatcatcher, yellow-throated warbler, white-throated sparrow, field sparrow, and Carolina wren.
