Birding at Prime Hook NWR: Featuring a Common Tern (8/9/21)

Our second stop today was at Prime Hook NWR. Some of the birds we identified from the Visitor’s Center included purple martin, chipping sparrow, laughing gull, and field sparrow. We walked along the Dike Trail next and saw four types of terns: Forster’s, least, common, and royal. Other birds along the trail that we identified included lesser yellowlegs, osprey, Canada goose, mallard (pair), blue grosbeak, indigo bunting, snowy egret, northern cardinal, American and fish crows, and semipalmated plover.
