In the Visitor’s Center area, we heard more birds than we saw. Some of the birds we identified included red-shouldered hawk, Carolina wren, northern flicker, song sparrow, swamp sparrow, and red-winged blackbird. The Dike Trail was fairly active. Birds we identified there included brown-headed cowbird, Carolina chickadee, northern pintail, Canada goose, great blue heron, greater yellowlegs, bald eagle, ruddy duck, Forster’s tern, ring-billed gull, and northern mockingbird. Birds we identified along the Boardwalk Trail included common grackle, white-throated sparrow, northern pintail, green-winged teal, American black duck, eastern towhee, and American robin. Our last stop was at Foord’s Landing Road. We hoped to find the eastern screech-owl there but we didn’t see it in its usual spot. All we identified there was American robin, mourning dove, and northern flicker.
