The rookery behind the Welcome Center was very active, particularly with wading bird offspring begging for food. Most of these offspring were white ibises, great egrets, and snowy egrets, although there were other birds in the trees as well including black-crowned night heron, little blue heron, song sparrow, boat-tailed grackle, and red-winged blackbird. Other birds seen in the area included yellow-crowned night heron, laughing gull, tricolored heron, osprey, willet, mallard, and great blue heron. We heard a clapper rail as well.
