The vantage point from the parking lot overlooking the rookery was spectacular. Birds, mostly herons, egrets, and ibises, were busy flying in and out. Many were nesting and some had eggs. Some of the birds we saw were yellow-crowned night heron, black-crowned night heron, great egret, snowy egret, glossy ibis, white ibis, song sparrow, laughing gull, boat-tailed grackle, Canada goose, and fish crow. We looked near the mudflats and in the water and saw clapper rail, black-bellied plover, semipalmated plover, semipalmated sandpiper, short-billed dowitcher, great black-backed gull, and dunlin.
