Birding at Lake Woodruff NWR: Featuring a Great Blue Heron (1/25/25)

We saw a few birds from the parking lot including blue-gray gnatcatcher, red-shouldered hawk, yellow-rumped warbler, and ruby-crowned kinglet. From there, we walked a complete loop around Pool 1. Some of the birds we saw were common gallinule, American coot, belted kingfisher, blue-winged teal, eastern phoebe, bald eagle, tricolored heron, and palm warbler. After lunch, we headed out again to Pool 1, but we continued straight to Pool 3 before stopping at the twin palm trees. Some of the birds we identified along this trail were American anhinga, pied-billed grebe, American coot, black vulture, sedge wren, and little blue heron. We only heard the sedge wren which was identified by the Merlin app.
