We walked our usual two trails through the preserve. First, we took the Red Trail to the beach and back. Some of the 31 birds we identified along this trail were eastern bluebird, cedar waxwing, eastern towhee, tufted titmouse, osprey (first one this year locally), brant (at least 50), yellow-bellied sapsucker, bald eagle (imm.), bufflehead, surf scoter, black scoter, red-breasted merganser, great black-backed gull, pine warbler, brown-headed nuthatch, killdeer, and red-bellied woodpecker. We took the Purple Trail next. Some of the birds we identified along this trail included yellow-rumped warbler (many in the trees after crossing the road back to the main part of the preserve), belted kingfisher, great blue heron, field sparrow, downy woodpecker, house finch, red-winged blackbird, and greater yellowlegs.
