Birding at James Farm Ecological Preserve: Featuring an Osprey (7/29/24)

We covered both sides of Cedar Neck Road. On the west side, we walked along the Red, Orange, and Purple Trails. The more interesting birds we saw were by the bay. These birds included green heron (several), great blue heron (a few), barn swallow, Forster’s tern, great egret, ruddy turnstone, double-crested cormorant, osprey (on nests), and snowy egret. A little further into the woods heading towards the observation platform, we saw a ruby-throated hummingbird. The more interesting birds across the east side of the road were seen from the observation deck. These birds included great egret (many, including several in trees), great blue heron, double-crested cormorant, osprey, purple martin, and downy woodpecker. By the field along the exit path, we saw one glossy ibis flying overhead and a house wren on top of a bluebird box.
