This was the first of a two-part trip I took with the Sussex Bird Club. We took several trails throughout the James Farm Nature Preserve including the one to Indian River Bay. Unfortunately, we didn’t see much on the bay because most of it was covered by fog. By the time we crossed the street and went to the observation platform, the fog lifted and we got good views of the marsh. Birds we identified included snowy egret, laughing gull, yellow-rumped warbler, black-and-white warbler, pine warbler, royal tern, belted kingfisher, blue jay, eastern bluebird, downy woodpecker, northern flicker, and greater yellowlegs.
