Birding at James Farm Ecological Preserve – Featuring a Green Heron (10/13/23)

I covered two trails in the preserve. First I was on the Red Trail which goes to the bay. Birds identified along this trail included yellow-rumped warbler, palm warbler, Carolina chickadee, gray catbird, laughing gull, great blue heron, osprey, eastern towhee, double-crested cormorant, house finch, and blue jay. Next I took the Purple Trail. Some of the birds I identified along this trail were American crow, golden-crowned kinglet, yellow-rumped warbler, dark-eyed junco, white-throated sparrow, double-crested cormorant (flock), red-bellied woodpecker, and downy woodpecker. I saw a green heron perching on a large tree root in the pond near the raised blind. Suddenly, it turned around and snatched a large frog in its beak and was trying to figure out how to eat it.
