We went to Fowler Beach to hopefully spot a short-eared owl or two, but we didn’t see any. There were very few northern harriers hunting, too. Some of the birds we saw in the parking lot area included great blue heron, bufflehead, American black duck, yellow-rumped warbler, hooded merganser, and northern harrier. The tide was low at the beach exposing a lot of coralline algae. Dunlins were seen in and out of the algae. Other birds identified from the beach were great blue heron, lesser scaup, black-bellied plover, surf scoter, American herring gull, and Savannah sparrow. We went back to the parking lot and the best we saw there was a flock of 17 tundra swans flying over us.
