We saw two snow geese and four buffleheads in the water very close to the parking lot. More distant birds included tundra swan and American black duck. Along the path to the beach, we saw great blue heron, bald eagle, and northern harrier. We saw sanderling, surf scoter, ring-billed gull, and red-breasted merganser in the bay. There was also a long line of snow geese further out in the water, perhaps about 1,000. We went back to the parking lot and along the road to the first turn to look for short-eared owls but none of them showed up. Instead, we saw a flock of 25 tundra swans fly over us, a few red-winged blackbirds, and a few northern harriers. We also heard a killdeer.
