Birding at Fowler Beach – Featuring a Snow Bunting (2/10/23)

We birded from the parking lot to the beach and back. We hoped to find a short-eared owl at the end of the afternoon but we didn’t see one. Along the beach closer to the dunes, the highlight was several snow buntings and horned larks mixed in with a flock of red-winged blackbirds. Other birds identified were great black-backed gull, dunlin, herring gull, sanderling, snow geese (two in the pond and flocks overhead near sunset), northern harrier, bald eagle (2 adult, 2 immature), American black duck, tundra swan, northern shoveler, surf scoter, killdeer, red-throated loon, and great blue heron.
