Birding at Fort DeSoto Park: Featuring a Brown Pelican (1/21/24)

Although there was a bright sun, it was cold and windy today. That was probably the reason we saw only 14 species today despite covering five areas. The best spot was the Arrowhead Picnic Area. Birds seen there included brown pelican, common loon, osprey, black skimmer (at least 50), white pelican, red-breasted merganser, royal tern, and double-crested cormorant. At North Beach, we only saw great blue heron, osprey, turkey vulture, and ring-billed gull. At the Fort, we saw osprey, turkey vulture, and blue-gray gnatcatcher. Along the Gulf Pier, we saw brown pelican, double-crested cormorant, osprey, and common loon. By the Bay Pier, we saw common loon, great egret, osprey, and black vulture.
