We covered four areas of the refuge today starting with the Leeds Eco-Trail Boardwalk. Birds identified along this trail included ruby-crowned kinglet, great egret, northern harrier, tree swallow, clapper rail, blue jay, and American goldfinch. We went to the Gull Pond Tower Trail next. Some of the birds we saw here were green-winged teal, Canada goose, mute swan, American black duck, mallard, great blue heron, northern shoveler, yellow-rumped warbler, northern harrier, and white ibis (imm.). We identified 27 species along the Wildlife Drive. Along the Drive, birds seen included northern shoveler, green-winged teal, white ibis, ring-billed gull, dunlin, northern pintail, American black duck, common tern, Forster’s tern, semipalmated sandpiper, tricolored heron, ruddy duck, and double-crested cormorant. Our last area of the day was the Leeds Eco-Trail that went through the woods. Birds identified here included belted kingfisher, killdeer, blue jay, northern mockingbird, Carolina chickadee, and northern flicker.
