Birding at DuPont Nature Center: Featuring Ospreys (5/23/24)

I went on a field trip with the Sussex Bird Club. The first stop was at the DuPont Nature Center. There were more than 1,000 birds on the rocks and beach, and we did see some red knots. Other birds identified here included willet, herring gull, osprey, dunlin, ruddy turnstone, black-necked stilt, tree swallow, barn swallow, spotted sandpiper, semipalmated sandpiper, double-crested cormorant, Caspian tern, short-billed dowitcher, and boat-tailed grackle. Some of the birds identified along Lighthouse Road included red-winged blackbird, ring-billed gull, clapper rail, seaside sparrow, ruddy turnstone, common yellowthroat, and American robin. The last stop was at the Marvel Boardwalk. Birds identified here included osprey, red-winged blackbird, common yellowthroat, eastern kingbird, northern harrier, mourning dove, great blue heron, green heron, willet, black-necked stilt, house wren, and laughing gull.
