Birding at Delaware Seashore State Park: Featuring a Horned Grebe (3/2/22)

For the first part of our trip today, we birded at Burton Island. There were about 13 black-crowned night herons in the field and trees on the south side of the dirt parking lot. They were a mixture of adults and immatures. Other birds seen in the water around the causeway included horned grebe, herring gull, red-throated loon, common loon, American black duck, bufflehead, red-breasted merganser, hooded merganser, belted kingfisher, and pied-billed grebe. Birds seen on the island included northern cardinal, northern harrier, Canada goose, yellow-rumped warbler, Carolina chickadee, and northern flicker.
