Our first stop was at the Indian River Inlet. There wasn’t much variety today but we saw several Forster’s terns, laughing gulls, barn swallows, and brown pelicans. We left the inlet and crossed the bridge to get to Burton Island. Right away, there was a green heron on the causeway rocks that allowed me to take several pictures of it. Boat-tailed grackles were also common in this area. Elsewhere on the island we identified, among other birds, osprey, tree swallow, snowy egret, mallard, eastern kingbird, clapper rail, house wren, Carolina wren, and a female bufflehead. We also saw a pine warbler, chestnut-sided warbler, and blackpoll warbler and heard a common yellowthroat.
