Birding at Delaware Seashore State Park – Featuring a Great Blue Heron (3/1/23)

We first birded along the Indian River Inlet. Although the tide was still coming in, no birds were swimming in the inlet itself. We saw offshore mainly common loon, great black-backed gull, long-tailed duck, and black scoter. We saw by the parking lot a ring-billed gull and boat-tailed grackle. Our second stop was at Burton Island. Some of the birds we saw from the causeway were bufflehead (most common there), red-breasted merganser, great blue heron, American robin, black-crowned night heron, horned grebe, and Canada goose. Some birds we identified along the trail were downy woodpecker, northern cardinal, brown-headed nuthatch, and white-throated sparrow. In the trail opening to the inlet, we saw a common loon and a flock of brants.
