Birding at Delaware Seashore State Park: Featuring a Common Eider (11/20/20)

I picked up a few nice birds in a short morning birding trip to the Indian River South Inlet at Delaware Seashore State Park, located south of Rehoboth Beach, DE. The inlet, jetty, and beach area attract a lot of ducks and seabirds. Birds seen included black scoters, ruddy turnstones, and northern gannets in the distance.

My featured picture is a male common eider just off the beach near the jetty. There were about 30 common eiders in this group. After birding at this location, I went to nearby Burton Island intending to take the trail around it. Unfortunately, the path was closed due to ongoing hunting. At least I now know the dates that this trail will be closed.
