Birding at Cape May Point State Park: Featuring a Little Blue Heron (10/15/24)

We covered three areas of the park. Some birds we saw along the Red Trail and two overlooks included golden-crowned kinglet, yellow-rumped warbler, mallard, belted kingfisher, sharp-shinned hawk, Cooper’s hawk, northern harrier (“gray ghost”), mute swan, green-winged teal, northern pintail, northern shoveler, and gadwall. We went to the Hawk Watch Observation Deck next. Many birders were on this deck. Birds we saw included Eurasian wigeon, American wigeon, bald eagle, little blue heron (imm.), American coot, green-winged teal, gadwall, yellow-rumped warbler, peregrine falcon, northern shoveler, mute swan, Canada goose, snowy egret, and glossy ibis. Birds seen along the Yellow/Blue Trail included American coot, little blue heron (imm.), American black duck, gadwall, tree swallow, greater yellowlegs, great blue heron, northern pintail, turkey vulture, northern shoveler, bald eagle, and laughing gull.
