Birding at Cape Henlopen State Park: Featuring a Yellow-Rumped Warbler (3/14/24)

We covered two areas of the park. First, we took the north part of Gordon’s Pond trail from the parking lot to Bench 5. Birds we saw along this trail included northern cardinal, dark-eyed junco, pine warbler, eastern bluebird, yellow-rumped warbler, osprey, killdeer, great blue heron, northern shoveler, bufflehead, chipping sparrow, brown-headed nuthatch, American coot, and northern flicker. In the distance in the marsh, we scoped a Wilson’s snipe that stayed in the same area, so we got a good look at it. We drove to the fishing pier next. Some of the birds we saw there were bufflehead, surf scoter, double-crested cormorant, horned grebe, bald eagle, red-breasted merganser, red-throated loon, osprey, ring-billed gull, and fish crow.
