Birding at Cape Henlopen State Park: Featuring a Yellow-Rumped Warbler (12/13/21)

We birded one mile in each direction along the south part of Gordon’s Pond Trail. We saw several flocks of snow geese, mostly heading towards the beach. One adult and one immature bald eagle were also seen. There were many yellow-rumped warblers flying in and around the juniper bushes. The water birds we saw in the pond were ring-billed gull, great egret, great blue heron, mallard, herring gull, northern shoveler, American black duck, ruddy duck, northern pintail, Canada goose, bufflehead, and pied-billed grebe. Some of the other birds we saw included a belted kingfisher, red-bellied woodpecker, northern harrier, and hermit thrush.
