It was an unusually mild mid-December day at Cape Henlopen State Park where it warmed up into the mid-60’s by late morning. We first birded the beach area at Herring Point. There were many surf scoters, gulls, and red-throated loons in the water. A few northern gannets were seen in the distance and one eagle soared high in the sky. We next walked along the north side of Gordon’s Pond Trail. In the distance over the ocean were large flocks of snow geese making a racket. We also saw a red-tailed hawk and an immature bald eagle along the trail.
