We birded in four locations in the park this morning. The first stop was the fishing pier where we saw 17 species. Among them were northern mockingbird, song sparrow, yellow-rumped warbler, royal tern, herring gull, brown pelican, Savannah sparrow, bufflehead, hooded merganser, sanderling, Forster’s tern, and bald eagle (one adult and one immature). The next stop was the bay beach just below The Point parking lot. There wasn’t much there but we saw a flock of gadwalls and a group of brants. On the other side of the parking lot at the ocean beach, we saw double-crested cormorant, merlin, red-throated loon, northern gannet, and great black-backed gull. Herring Point was our last stop and it only yielded five species—great black-backed gull, ring-billed gull, northern gannet, double-crested cormorant, and Carolina wren.
