Birding at Cape Henlopen State Park: Featuring a Ruddy Turnstone (8/23/22)

Birding at Cape Henlopen State Park: Featuring a Ruddy Turnstone (8/23/22)

Our first stop was at The Point below the parking lot. The tide was almost high so we didn’t see many birds feeding on the mudflats. Some of the birds we saw here were mourning dove, royal tern, osprey, double-crested cormorant, brown pelican, willet, barn swallow, and laughing gull. Our second stop was along the Seaside Nature Trail. There were two ruddy turnstones on the beach that were picking on an upside-down horseshoe crab. Some of the other birds we saw were northern cardinal, osprey, Forster’s tern, great blue heron, great black-backed gull, rock pigeon, Carolina chickadee, and ring-billed gull.
