We walked around three areas of the park this morning. Our first stop was The Point bay beach area below the parking lot. We didn’t see any nesting birds within the endangered bird roped off area. There were many ospreys flying over the beach with a couple of them carrying partially-eaten fish. Other birds seen here included killdeer, one adult bald eagle towards The Point, blue jay, and ring-billed, herring, and laughing gulls. Some of the birds we identified along the Seaside Nature Trail were purple martin, house finch, prairie warbler, double-crested cormorant, gray catbird, red-eyed vireo, and northern cardinal. Our last stop was at the fishing pier. Birds identified here included Forster’s tern, a nesting osprey on the old pier pilings, a flock of brants, a laughing gull, and a rock pigeon.
