Birding at Cape Henlopen State Park: Featuring a Piping Plover (8/10/24)

We birded in two parts of the park, starting at The Point below the parking lot. The tide was low but coming in fast. Several birds were walking along the sandbars and on the beach. Birds we saw here included semipalmated plover, osprey, sanderling, least tern, royal tern, blue grosbeak, piping plover (1), American oystercatcher (2), ruddy turnstone, laughing gull, great blue heron, Forster’s tern, black-bellied plover, herring gull, great black-backed gull, and great blue heron. We took the Seaside Nature Trail loop next. Birds that we saw here included Carolina chickadee, brown-headed nuthatch, blue grosbeak, barn swallow, ruby-throated hummingbird, osprey, royal tern, brown pelican, and American robin.
