Birding at Cape Henlopen State Park: Featuring a Laughing Gull (6/17/21)

Our birding in the park began in the parking lot area at The Point. On the bayside, we saw, among other birds, osprey, brown thrasher, laughing gull, piping plover, American oystercatcher, black-bellied plover, and double-crested cormorant. There wasn’t much to see on the beach side of The Point. All we saw there were red-winged blackbird, laughing gull, black-bellied plover, and turkey vulture. Next, we went to Herring Point and didn’t see much there either although we added chimney swift and brown pelican. Our last stop was along the north part of Gordon’s Pond Trail. Birds we identified there included blue grosbeak, great and snowy egrets, cedar waxwing, black skimmer, willet, common yellowthroat, killdeer, Carolina wren, and chipping sparrow.
