Birding at Berry Springs Park and Preserve: Featuring a Swainson’s Hawk (4/7/24)

Birding at Berry Springs Park and Preserve: Featuring a Swainson’s Hawk (4/7/24)

We started at the end of the parking lot and mainly walked around the lake and primitive camping area loop. We got a good look at a Swainson’s hawk that flew over us. There were very few birds on the lake, and we only saw one pied-billed grebe and a pair of blue-winged teal. Some of the other birds we identified in the park included red-bellied woodpecker, white-winged dove, blue jay, black-crested titmouse, purple martin, barn swallow, northern cardinal, white-eyed vireo, white-throated sparrow, Carolina wren, American crow, and black vulture.
