Birding at Assateague Island National Seashore – Featuring an Eastern Phoebe (10/10/23)

We covered four areas starting with Bayside Point. There wasn’t much there as we only identified downy woodpecker, Carolina wren, northern flicker, laughing gull, and gray catbird. The Life of the Marsh Trail was the most productive trail as we identified 23 species there. Some of these birds were laughing gull, brown thrasher, eastern phoebe, double-crested cormorant, great egret, belted kingfisher, bald eagle, great blue heron, white ibis (two flocks), osprey, tree swallow, Caspian tern, royal tern, American oystercatcher, and little blue heron (immature and adult). Some of the birds we identified along Old Ferry Landing included royal tern, greater yellowlegs, tree swallow, and royal tern. Birds we saw along Life of the Forest Trail included tree swallow, eastern towhee, brown-headed nuthatch, black-bellied plover, pine warbler, and great egret.
