I attended an outing with the Coastal Camera Club’s Wildlife Special Interest Group to Prime Hook NWR. Birds identified from the old Visitor’s Center included purple martin, northern house wren, laughing gull, and chipping sparrow. Some of the birds seen along the Dike Trail were common yellowthroat, orchard oriole, bald eagle, osprey, eastern kingbird, tree swallow, red-bellied woodpecker, and great blue heron. Birds seen along the Boardwalk Trail included great-crested flycatcher, green-winged teal, bald eagle, red-winged blackbird, and greater yellowlegs. Our next stop was Foord’s Landing Road where we identified blue-gray gnatcatcher, American goldfinch, double-crested cormorant, and eastern towhee, among others. The last stop was Fleetwood Pond. Some of the birds identified here were prothonotary warbler, mallard (pair), ovenbird, Canada goose, and brown-headed cowbird.
