Birding at Prime Hook NWR: Featuring an Osprey (6/28/24)

Our walk this morning covered our usual three areas. Some of the birds we identified from the Visitor’s Center included purple martin, brown-headed cowbird, common yellowthroat, and house wren. Along the Dike Trail, birds we identified included osprey, glossy ibis (2 overhead), eastern towhee, orchard oriole, barn swallow, snowy egret, willet, Carolina wren, Forster’s tern, great blue heron, tree swallow, marsh wren, black vulture, blue-gray gnatcatcher, Canada goose, and laughing gull. From the Boardwalk Trail, some of the birds we identified included fish crow, Carolina chickadee, northern cardinal, red-winged blackbird, common yellowthroat, bald eagle, house finch, and mourning dove.
