The rookery behind the Welcome Center was as active as we saw it two days ago. This time, besides the view from high up on the causeway, we also walked down to the ground level and along the service road. Birds we saw with offspring included white ibis, great egret, mallard, and Canada goose. Other birds that we identified included black-crowned night heron, yellow-crowned night heron, Forster’s tern, little blue heron, snowy egret, song sparrow, clapper rail, common yellowthroat, laughing gull, and American oystercatcher.
