Birding at Cape Henlopen State Park: Featuring a Brown-Headed Nuthatch (12/8/23)

We first walked down to the bay from The Point parking lot and stayed there for a short time. Many yellow-rumped warblers were in the bushes on the way down the trail. The tide was low and some of the birds we saw by the bay were great black-backed gull, sanderling, dunlin, surf scoter, Forster’s tern, red-throated loon, and a bald eagle (on the rock wall). A dozen or so tree swallows were flying over the dunes. We went to the Seaside Nature Trail next. Birds seen along the trail included northern cardinal, tufted titmouse, Carolina chickadee, brown-headed nuthatch, bufflehead, Forster’s tern, black vulture, dark-eyed junco, white-throated sparrow, and double-crested cormorant.
