Birding at Cape Henlopen State Park – Featuring a Semipalmated Plover (10/5/23)

We walked around The Point today from the bay side around to the ocean side. The tide was high so we didn’t see as many wading birds as we normally would have. However, there was a pool and a flat, muddy area near The Point itself where we saw black-bellied plovers (about 3) and semipalmated plovers (about 8). Other birds seen along this two-mile loop were laughing gull, double-crested cormorant, brown pelican, herring gull, royal tern, ring-billed gull, osprey, lesser black-backed gull, great black-backed gull, and bald eagle.
