Birding at Prime Hook NWR: Featuring a Great Blue Heron (1/19/22)

Our first trip this afternoon took us to Prime Hook NWR. From the Visitor’s Center area, we only saw turkey and black vultures. Dike Trail was much better in terms of birds. Some of the birds we saw along this trail included northern mockingbird, mallard (pair), great blue heron, belted kingfisher, bald eagle, northern pintail, dunlin, yellow-rumped warbler, bufflehead, ring-billed gull, Canada goose, and great black-backed gull. Along the coast to the north we saw large flocks of snow geese.
