I went to Prime Hook NWR and birded in four areas, although three of them were mostly unproductive. In the field across the road from the Visitor’s Center was a northern harrier. Other birds identified were American robin, Carolina wren, tree swallow, and dark-eyed junco. Dike Trail was the most productive trail. The tide was high. Some of the birds seen there were two adult bald eagles, tree swallow, ring-billed gull, yellow-rumped warbler, turkey vulture, belted kingfisher, European starling, northern mockingbird, great blue heron, and red-winged blackbird. Only six birds were identified along the Boardwalk Trail—turkey vulture, European starling, northern harrier, American black duck, American robin, and Carolina chickadee. The Photographer’s blind was almost void of birds and I only identified American robin, northern flicker, and turkey vulture. No birds were seen from within the blind itself.
